Embodied Narratives - Seedlings with Anya Pearson and Lex Macnab

Begins May 3rd

Embodied Narratives fuses the core ethos of Where We Come From: Ethnoautobiography - decolonized, anti-racist approaches to writing in community and applies it to an anti-MFA/anti-traditional workshop and critique model of how feedback is given while working on book-length works in progress.

Affectionately called “Embers” - this new expansion of Embodied Narratives Program is geared toward generation.

This thirteen week workshop meets weekly on Sunday nights, beginning with a week of introductions and co-working, followed by two people bringing in six-seven pages of new material each week for four rounds.

The goal is to write as much as you can over the course of the thirteen weeks together, aiming for ten-fifteen pages a week. But don’t let that number overwhelm you, you will have plenty of communal support and cheerleaders, facilitator love notes and prompts, shared resources in the community discord server, and the inspiration that comes from being in community.

We also recognize that life be life-ing HARD so let that page number be a goal but not a means to beat yourself up if you don’t hit that number.

Alexis Macnab (ey/em/eir pronouns) channels creativity across disciplines, and is endlessly inspired by the way each medium collaborates with the story it tells. Alexis's work in theater has been produced internationally and across the U.S., eir hand-drawn and stop-motion animation has been commissioned for films and music videos, ey has curated pop-up art gallery happenings, and brought works of Shakespeare into peoples’ kitchens and living rooms. Alexis spent the pandemic years transforming in many ways, including from a City-and-Karaoke-Loving Theater Person, into a Slime-Mold-Curious Writer-Artist Apprentice Tree. In fiction, Alexis is interested in twisting the tools of fable and folktale to challenge inherited assumptions, dig for buried truths, and cast spells of compassion. Alexis holds a B.A. from Oberlin College, and an M.F.A. from the California Institute of the Arts. Eir writing can be found online in The Ilanot Review, Atticus Review, and https://alexismacnab.com.
